President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of the Zangilan City Education Complex on November 6.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that construction of a general secondary school building with capacity for 960 students in Zangilan began under a relevant order signed by the President of Azerbaijan in 2022. In 2025, the project was conceptually revised, and the facility was redesigned as the Zangilan City Education Complex, a vocational education institution.
The complex includes rooms for school preparation, biology, computer science and pre-conscription training, as well as “STEAM-STARTERS,” “STEAM-SCIENCE LAB” and “STEAM CHALLENG” rooms, robotics zones, laboratories, and workshops for tailoring, plumbing and electrical work. A library, sports and assembly halls, and a cafeteria will also be available to teachers and students.
Extensive landscaping has also been completed on the complex’s 1.6-hectare grounds, which include an outdoor sports field and a running track.
In recent years, hundreds of new school buildings have been constructed and existing educational institutions renovated as part of the education policy implemented in Azerbaijan under President Ilham Aliyev. A key focus of this policy is the development of comprehensive infrastructure in the liberated territories under the Great Return Program, with educational institutions playing an important role. The opening of the new education complex in Zangilan demonstrates the provision of conditions for children of families returning to their ancestral lands and the attention given to their access to quality education. The complex’s modern teaching facilities will contribute to educating young people and developing their vocational skills.

A 160-place nursery-kindergarten also opened in Zangilan on November 6.
The nursery-kindergarten was built as part of the implementation of the First State Program on the Great Return to the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Comprehensive facilities have been created for children’s education and upbringing, the effective organization of their leisure time and the development of their basic skills. The nursery-kindergarten also has playrooms, bedrooms, computer and medical rooms, and a gym. Music, dance and assembly halls will also be available to the children. The grounds have been landscaped, with facilities provided for outdoor recreation.
