Medicines and cigarettes concealed from customs control were discovered in three separate cases as a result of comprehensive operations and customs control measures carried out by officers of the Main Customs Department for Air Transport.
Operative Information Center-OMM reported the matter, citing the State Customs Committee.
According to the report, the luggage of Azerbaijani citizens arriving on a Tabriz-Baku flight was screened using stationary X-ray equipment, which revealed suspicious images.
During the inspection, customs officers found 12,440 tablets, 4,066 capsules, 162 individual and 41 boxes of liquid solutions, 120 packets of powdered solution, 70 suppositories, two boxes of needles, 58 boxes and 613 individual units of ointment, one box of gel, as well as 4,460 cigarettes concealed from customs control in the luggage belonging to the three passengers.
An investigation into the cases is underway.
Azerbaijan’s customs authorities use X-ray screening and physical inspections to identify undeclared goods and prevent the illegal movement of medicines and tobacco products across the country’s borders.
