Officers from the Tovuz and Bilasuvar customs departments have successfully intercepted 36,720 cigarettes that were being smuggled across the border, according to the State Customs Committee.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the seizures occurred during routine inspections of cargo vehicles.

At the "Girmizi Korpu" (Red Bridge) customs post under the Tovuz Customs Department, officials discovered 12,320 undeclared cigarettes hidden within three separate cargo vehicles during inspection procedures. Simultaneously, at the "Bilasuvar" customs post, inspectors found 24,400 cigarettes of various brands concealed inside four cardboard boxes within the trailer of an imported cargo vehicle.

The State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan regularly conducts such inspections as part of its mandate to secure the country's borders and prevent the illegal trafficking of goods, including tobacco products, which are subject to strict import regulations and excise duties. Investigations into both incidents are currently underway.
