King Charles III has presented US President Donald Trump with a historic brass bell from the submarine "HMS Trump" during a formal dinner held at the White House.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the gesture was highlighted by the Washington Post as a significant symbolic act between the two nations.

According to the report, the King emphasized the centuries-long history of US-British relations, noting its various peaks and troughs. While presenting the gift, the monarch remarked, "If you need to get in touch with us, ring the bell." The brass bell, originating from a submarine launched in 1944 from the Barrow-in-Furness shipyard, was presented as "testimony to our shared history."

The vessel, designated P333, was the only submarine in the history of the Royal Navy to bear the name. It served within the 4th Submarine Squadron based in Australia and holds the distinction of being the last Royal Navy submarine to depart the region in 1969. The vessel was eventually sold for scrap in 1971.

During his concluding remarks at the dinner, King Charles III expressed his gratitude to the White House host and the First Lady. He humorously characterized the meeting as a "great improvement on the Boston Tea Party," referring to the historic 1773 protest where American colonists destroyed tea shipments from the British East India Company in Boston Harbor to protest British taxation.

The exchange underscores the "Special Relationship" between the United Kingdom and the United States, a diplomatic term coined by Winston Churchill to describe the close political, diplomatic, cultural, and military ties. Such high-level gift exchanges are traditional components of state visits and formal receptions, intended to reinforce bilateral alliances through shared historical artifacts.
