Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestler Arseniy Djioyev won a silver medal at the world championships in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. He lost 3-2 to American Kyle Dake in the 86kg final.

After the final, Djioyev said he had very much wanted to win gold. “I didn’t get the gold medal. I wanted it very much. I wanted the Azerbaijani flag to be raised in first place. But there is time, and there is progress. We are moving in the right direction. With God’s help, I have no intention of stopping. This is only the beginning. Next time, I will try to reach the top step of the podium,” the wrestler said.

Djioyev also stressed that results in wrestling do not always go as expected. “That is wrestling; it is an unpredictable sport. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. This time, it turned out this way.”
