Iran strikes US air base in Jordan with ballistic missiles

Iran has announced that it carried out a missile strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which is used by US military forces. The attack reportedly followed US strikes on Iranian oil tankers, including a vessel near Kharg Island, one of the country’s main oil export hubs.

The “Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said maintenance hangars and facilities housing US F-35, F-16 and F-15 aircraft, as well as aviation shelters, were targeted in the attack.

Iranian sources reported that between 25 and 40 ballistic missiles were launched during the attack.

The Jordanian Armed Forces, meanwhile, said they detected 20 ballistic missiles and that air defense systems intercepted 18 of them. The remaining two missiles fell in uninhabited areas, it said.

Muwaffaq Salti Air Base is located in Jordan’s Azraq area and has been used by US forces for regional military operations. Ballistic missile defense systems are designed to detect, track and intercept incoming missiles before they reach their targets.
