President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that certain developments taking place in the world today, particularly in the Muslim world, are causing concern for everyone.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev made the remarks on September 15 while receiving Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States; members and observers of the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Administrations of the Organization of Turkic States; and a delegation comprising co-organizers of the Yahya Bakuvi International Conference and members of the Supreme Religious Council of the Peoples of the Caucasus.
“Certain developments taking place in today’s world, and particularly in the Muslim world, naturally concern all of us. In Azerbaijan, we have always sought, and will continue to seek, to strengthen Islamic solidarity through practical steps and our work. A number of events have been held in Azerbaijan under the auspices of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the ICESCO. Nearly 10 years ago, in 2017, the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games were held in Baku at our initiative and with the support of all Muslim countries. We viewed these Games not merely as a sporting competition, but as a major celebration of unity.”
The Islamic Solidarity Games are a multinational sporting event organized for athletes from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Azerbaijan hosted the fourth edition in Baku in 2017, bringing together participants from across the Muslim world and highlighting cooperation through sport and culture.
