A private plane flying from Georgia’s Batumi Airport to Turkey’s Ordu-Giresun Airport made an emergency landing in the sea near Rize-Artvin Airport due to an engine failure.
Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the incident was relayed by the Main Search and Rescue Coordination Center to the Turkish Coast Guard Command.
A vessel, two boats and a diving team were subsequently dispatched to the area.
Rescue teams arriving at the scene rescued the two people on board, who were found conscious on the surface of the sea.
The people involved were taken to Kaçkar State Hospital as a precautionary measure.
Members of the Coast Guard Command who carried out the rescue operation were commended.
Turkey’s coast guard is responsible for maritime search-and-rescue operations and security in the country’s territorial waters. Authorities did not report any fatalities in the incident.
