A Turkish Airlines passenger aircraft operating the Istanbul–Kathmandu flight caught fire upon landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal.
The Operative Information Center-OMM, citing BBC Turkish, reports that sparks were observed in the right landing gear shortly after the aircraft touched down, which subsequently led to a fire. The plane was carrying 277 passengers and 11 crew members at the time of the incident. All individuals on board were successfully evacuated, and no injuries have been reported.
Turkish Airlines issued an official statement confirming that the fire was caused by a technical malfunction in a hydraulic pipe. Emergency services at the airport responded immediately to contain the situation and ensure the safety of the passengers.
Tribhuvan International Airport serves as the primary international gateway to Nepal and is situated in a geographically complex region, requiring high precision for flight operations. Turkish Airlines, which connects Istanbul to numerous global destinations, has reiterated its commitment to safety protocols following the incident. This event underscores the vital role of rapid response teams in managing aviation emergencies at major international hubs.
