The European Union (EU) is set to introduce a large-scale investment plan aimed at supporting the development of Greenland in the near future.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this information was released by the office of Jozef Sikela, the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships.

According to Politico, the new investment package is designed to improve daily living conditions on the island and strengthen the local population's right to determine their own future. The EU plans to nearly double its investment in the territory, bringing the total to 500 million euros. During his visit, Jozef Sikela is expected to meet with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and other high-ranking officials.

The move comes amid increasing geopolitical interest in the Arctic region. Earlier, US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte discussed the outlines of a new agreement regarding Greenland. According to the Axios portal, this agreement could allow the United States to establish new military bases and defense zones on the island while maintaining Denmark's sovereignty.

Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has become a focal point for global powers due to its strategic location and vast untapped natural resources. As melting ice caps open new shipping routes and provide easier access to rare earth minerals, both the EU and the United States are intensifying their diplomatic and economic engagement to ensure regional stability and security in the Arctic circle.
