Espanyol have announced the appointment of their new head coach. The Catalan club will be led by 45-year-old Eder Sarabia, who previously managed Elche. The parties have signed a contract running through the summer of 2028.
Sarabia will not be in charge for Espanyol’s La Liga match against Villarreal on Friday in the 11th round. Interim coach Sergio Garcia will lead the team for that game. Sarabia will begin work in the next round, when Espanyol face Deportivo. His official presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.
Manolo Gonzalez, 47, had been Espanyol’s head coach since 2024. He was dismissed after the team was eliminated from the Spanish Cup, losing 4-3 to Sestao River, who play in Spain’s fourth division.
Before joining Elche, Sarabia worked as an assistant to Quique Setien at Las Palmas, Betis and Barcelona.
Espanyol are 18th in La Liga with eight points from 10 matches.
