Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Iran’s deputy secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Bagheri Kani, in Beijing on November 2.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the meeting, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

Wang said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East was dragging on and spreading to other regions.

He stressed that dialogue and negotiations were the only way to resolve the situation.

The Chinese minister called on all parties to act responsibly toward their peoples and history, unite around a common goal and pursue a political solution through a rational and practical approach rather than resorting to force again.

Wang also said China was ready to continue working with all parties to restore peace in the region.

He said China-Iran relations had remained stable despite an unstable and changing international situation.

“This is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples, as well as the aspirations of Global South countries for unity and cooperation. China supports the safeguarding of Iran’s sovereignty and security and is ready to make joint efforts to further develop relations between the two countries,” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Bagheri Kani, in turn, outlined Iran’s position and approach to the situation in the region.

He stressed Tehran’s determination to protect its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity and to counter threats.

The Iranian official said his country was ready to hold talks with all parties and was actively contributing to peace and stability in the region.

Bagheri Kani praised the initiatives and proposals of Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as Beijing’s commitment to multilateralism.

He expressed hope that China would play a more significant role in ensuring international and regional peace.
