The number of people who have died from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reached 5,372.

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that foreign media have reported the figure.

The disease’s fatality rate is 51.6%.

A total of 10,414 Ebola infections have been confirmed in the country.

The disease has spread to 26 provinces. Based on these figures, the current outbreak is considered the deadliest Ebola epidemic in the country’s history.

The sharp increase in the reported death toll is attributed not to a rise in infections in a single day, but to a recalculation of statistical data.

Ebola infections have also been recorded in Kenya and Nigeria.

No new infections have been detected in Uganda since August.
