Canada will provide Ukraine with 2 billion Canadian dollars (approximately 1.5 billion US dollars) in aid.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this following a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
He said that, under the agreements reached, Kyiv would receive assistance worth 2 billion Canadian dollars.
The aid package includes Patriot missiles, ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles and energy resources.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country continued to support Ukraine, particularly by financing arms deliveries under the JUMPSTART mechanism.
Carney said Canada would allocate 350 million Canadian dollars (approximately 270 million US dollars) to purchase missiles for Ukraine’s air defense systems.
“Canada and Ukraine have finalized an agreement under the JUMPSTART mechanism to purchase vital air defense missiles. This 350 million dollar package will help protect the Ukrainian people, the country’s infrastructure and its airspace,” Carney said.
The prime minister added that Canada would also contribute to Ukraine’s Energy Support Fund. In addition, Canada will provide 430 million Canadian dollars (approximately 330 million US dollars) in loan guarantees to enable Ukraine to purchase natural gas for the winter season.
“We will also work closely together in the energy and critical minerals sectors to ensure reliable supply chains,” Carney stressed.
The Canadian prime minister also said his country was working closely with its European allies to establish a joint fund to support Ukrainian veterans.
During Zelensky’s visit to Canada, Ukraine and Canada also signed a declaration on a 100-year partnership. The document elevated relations between the two countries to the level of a comprehensive strategic alliance.
