The Canadian government has announced that it will increase coordination with international allies to maintain pressure on Iran and impose additional sanctions.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media reports, the decision was formalized in a joint statement released on the government's official website by Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne.

In their statement, the ministers highlighted concerns regarding Iran's threats to vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the country's illicit nuclear activities. They emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts, led by the United States, to ensure the security and openness of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint for global oil supplies.

The ministers stated that Canada will strengthen cooperation with international partners to sustain pressure on Tehran and implement new restrictive measures. Furthermore, they demanded that Iran immediately cease activities that destabilize the Middle East. The statement also affirmed that Canada remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at undermining Iran's capacity to finance activities deemed to be linked to terrorism.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil transit chokepoints, with a significant portion of global petroleum consumption passing through its narrow waters. Tensions in this region have historically been a focal point for international diplomacy, often leading to increased scrutiny of Iranian maritime and nuclear policies by Western nations.
