Lautaro Di Lollo scored the only goal in the 27th minute. River Plate were already down to 10 men after Lucas Martinez Quarta was shown a straight red card in the 10th minute.
The visitors finished the match with nine players. Gonzalo Montiel was sent off in the 79th minute, leaving River Plate with two fewer players for the remainder of the match. There were no further goals, and Boca Juniors secured a 1-0 victory.
