Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has revealed that the club was interested in Real Madrid winger Franco Mastantuono. The 19-year-old footballer is currently playing for Fiorentina on loan.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Manna told DAZN that the Naples-based club had been monitoring Mastantuono since his time at River Plate.
“We had been following Mastantuono since he was playing for River Plate. We liked him then and we still like him now. We wanted to sign him from Real Madrid, but the club was selling the player on terms that were unacceptable for Napoli at the time,” Manna said.
Last summer, Fiorentina signed Mastantuono on loan from Real Madrid. The Argentine has made seven appearances in all competitions for the Italian club, scoring three goals.
Mastantuono began his senior career at River Plate before moving to Real Madrid. His loan spell at Fiorentina has given him regular exposure to Italian football and helped maintain his development at the start of his European career.
