Azerbaijani judoka Ibrahim Talibov won gold in the 55 kg category at the 4th Summer Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. It was Azerbaijan’s first gold medal at Dakar 2026.
Talibov said it was difficult to put his joy into words after the competition. “It is impossible to describe these feelings in words; I am very happy. I kept my promise, and I am grateful that I was able to raise our flag high,” he said.
The judoka expressed deep gratitude to his mother, father and coaches for their efforts in his victory, stressing how much they had done for him. Talibov added that after the competition, all he wanted to do was rest.
Azerbaijan is represented in Dakar by 13 athletes competing in eight sports. The Games will continue until November 13.

Ibrahim Talibov began competing in the 55 kg category at Dakar 2026 on November 1. That day, his first opponent was to be the winner of the bout between Ibrahim Moussa and Cahan Zib Tari.
