Azerbaijan will develop a National Strategy on measures to combat zoonotic diseases.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this is stipulated in the “2027–2032 State Program on ensuring food security,” approved by President Ilham Aliyev.
Under the document, the preparation of the National Strategy has been assigned to the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, the Ministries of Health, Ecology and Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Economy.
The strategy is expected to help reduce health risks caused by zoonotic diseases among humans and animals, as well as related cases of illness and death.
Zoonotic diseases are infections that can be transmitted between animals and humans. Their prevention generally requires coordinated action in the fields of public health, veterinary medicine, food safety and environmental protection.
