The admission process for the first grade of general education institutions in Azerbaijan for the 2026–2027 academic year has officially commenced on May 6.

The State Agency for Preschool and General Education informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the registration process is being conducted electronically through the mektebeqebul.edu.az portal. This digital admission system covers all cities and regions across the Republic of Azerbaijan, ensuring a unified and streamlined approach to primary school enrollment.

According to official data, approximately 81,000 children in the Azerbaijani section have already been automatically transferred from preschool preparatory groups to the first grade this year. The Agency emphasized that a child's identification card is mandatory for the registration process. "The primary goal is to ensure accessibility and transparency for every parent during the school admission process," the statement noted.

In recent years, the Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan has significantly accelerated the digitalization of the country's educational infrastructure. The transition to electronic portals for school admissions is designed to eliminate bureaucratic hurdles, prevent density at educational facilities, and provide equal opportunities for students in both the capital, Baku, and regional areas. This initiative aligns with the broader national strategy to modernize the education system and enhance the quality of primary schooling across Azerbaijan.
