Spain has provided Ukraine with a new €437 million ($489 million) military assistance package, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday, according to Anadolu Agency.
In a statement on “X”, Zelenskyy said he met Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Madrid to discuss Ukraine’s “most pressing defense needs”.
Zelenskyy said Spain had consistently supported Kyiv throughout the war with Russia.
He briefed Sanchez on Russian strikes against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, logistics networks and railways.
“This year, Russia has damaged more of our locomotives than in all the previous years of this war combined,” Zelenskyy said.
“Our power grid and water supply are under constant attack. The situation is difficult, especially in Kyiv, and every step of humanitarian support is also very important,” he added.
Sanchez said Spain would continue to stand with the Ukrainian people.
“Because defending their freedom means defending international law, the sovereignty of nations and the European project,” he wrote on “X” after meeting Zelenskyy.
