Ukraine has informally suspended attacks on Russian oil refineries amid mounting pressure from US President Donald Trump and uncertainty over Washington’s continued support for Kyiv, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, according to Anadolu Agency.
The unofficial pause reportedly began early last week and is expected to remain in place until after the US midterm elections, potentially extending into November.
Ukraine has not officially announced a halt to the attacks.
Two military officials familiar with the matter said Ukrainian units carrying out long-range strikes were told in mid-October that attacks on Russian refineries would be suspended once ongoing operations had been completed.
Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that suspending the strikes would be prudent given the sensitive diplomatic situation, a person familiar with the matter said.
Zelenskyy agreed but stressed that the military remained free to resume the attacks if it considered them necessary, the source said.
