Cryptocurrency exchange “Binance” said Thursday it was investigating a potential security issue, while founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao pointed to a possible hack. “Binance” said user funds were safe, according to Anadolu Agency.
“Our teams are aware of reports of a potential security issue and are actively investigating. User funds are completely safe,” the company said on “X”. It added that its security teams were urgently reviewing relevant information.
The exchange urged users to be cautious of scams and avoid unofficial links, messages and requests for account information.
Zhao also wrote on “X” that user funds were safe and that the incident appeared to be a hack on “Binance”. He thanked “Tether” for freezing approximately $971 million and “Circle” for freezing approximately $823 million.
“Binance” later said trading on “Binance Alpha” had been temporarily suspended until the security issue was resolved. The suspension covered “CEX Buy Token”, “Alpha instant” and “CEX purchase prediction marketing” using funds in spot wallets.
The company said trading would resume once the issue was resolved and reiterated that user funds remained safe.
