Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a significant telephone conversation amid ongoing military tensions involving the US and Israel in the region.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Iranian Foreign Minister's social media accounts, that the parties discussed recent regional developments, with a particular focus on the situation in Lebanon.

During the call, the UN Secretary-General shared his perspectives on the current state of affairs in the Persian Gulf and Western Asia, as well as the critical issue of maritime shipping security.

Abbas Araghchi emphasized that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz cannot be viewed in isolation from the broader regional context. He asserted that any disruptions to shipping in the strait are a direct consequence of the military actions and policies pursued by the US and Israel.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most vital energy transit points, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Historically, tensions in this maritime corridor have led to fluctuations in global energy markets and heightened diplomatic friction between Tehran and Western powers. This latest exchange underscores the growing international concern over the potential for regional conflicts to spill over into global trade routes.
