British police arrested 25 protesters outside the Supreme Court in London on Wednesday, ahead of a hearing on a challenge to the government’s decision to proscribe Palestine Action under anti-terrorism legislation, according to Anadolu Agency.
The Metropolitan Police said the arrests were made on suspicion of expressing support for a proscribed organisation.
The hearing concerns a legal challenge brought by Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori, who is seeking to overturn the government’s decision to ban the group under anti-terrorism laws.
Ammori has asked the Supreme Court to quash the proscription, which placed Palestine Action on the list of banned organisations. The challenge disputes the government’s decision and its use of anti-terrorism legislation against the group.
The case has drawn attention to the ban’s implications for freedom of expression, the right to protest and the limits of government powers under counterterrorism legislation.
