Forty-three suspects, including municipal employees and contractors, have been detained in a bribery and irregularities investigation targeting the Seferihisar Municipality in Türkiye’s Izmir province.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Haber Global, that the operation was conducted as part of a criminal investigation launched by the Izmir Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation concerns allegations that bribes were exchanged in construction and urban improvement projects carried out by the municipality, as well as alleged irregularities in municipal tenders and direct procurement procedures.
According to the report, operations and searches were conducted at the homes of 48 suspects for whom detention warrants had been issued. A total of 43 suspects were apprehended.
Efforts to detain the remaining five suspects, who are believed to have evaded investigators, are continuing.
Seferihisar is a district of Izmir province on Türkiye’s Aegean coast. Municipal procurement and construction projects are subject to public tender and oversight rules designed to promote transparency and prevent conflicts of interest.
