Turkish authorities have detained several municipal officials, including mayors, in the Adalar district of Istanbul and the Silifke district of Mersin, on suspicion of involvement in bribery and corruption schemes.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Turkish media reports, the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has officially confirmed the operation.

Reports indicate that Ali Ercan Akpolat, the mayor of the Adalar district in Istanbul, along with deputy mayors Hüseyin Yılmaz and Fırat Durak, and 41 other municipal employees, were taken into custody. The suspects are accused of bribery, corruption, and the formation of an organized criminal group. Additionally, a separate operation in Mersin province resulted in the detention of Silifke district Mayor Mustafa Turgut and several other individuals.

These arrests are part of a broader ongoing effort by the Turkish judiciary to combat corruption within local government structures. Such operations underscore the government's commitment to transparency and the rule of law at the municipal level, as authorities continue to investigate allegations of financial misconduct and administrative irregularities across various provinces.
