Biography

Farhad Abdullayev was born on 5 December 1958 in Baku. In 1965–1975, he studied at Secondary School No. 189 in Baku.

In 1980, he began working at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan on assignment: first as an adviser, then as a senior adviser, and from 1985 as head of a department. In 1990, he was elected a judge of the Supreme Court by the Supreme Soviet and held this position until 2000. In September 2000, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Court of Appeal, established in the country for the first time.

On 25 June 2003, following approval by the Milli Majlis, he was appointed Chairman of the Constitutional Court by a presidential decree; on 24 June 2013, he was reappointed to this position in the same manner. He participated in the drafting of a number of legislative and other acts and is engaged in teaching and academic activities. He is Chairman of the Specialized Council for the defence of master's dissertations in “Jurisprudence” and “International Law” at Baku State University and of the Specialized Academic Council for the master's level of the jurisprudence specialty at the Academy of Public Administration under the President; he is a member of the ED 2.45 Dissertation Council under the National Aviation Academy of the Higher Attestation Commission. He is a member of the Commission on Combating Corruption.

In 2009, he was awarded the honorary title of “Honoured Lawyer”; in 2018, the “Shohrat” Order; in 2019, the jubilee medal “100th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918–2018)”; in 2024, the jubilee medal “100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev (1923–2023)”; and in 2020, the 2nd degree “Friendship” Order of Kazakhstan. He is married and has two children.
