Zelensky says Ukraine’s front-line position is strongest in years

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assessed the latest military and operational situation along the front line in a video address to the nation, outlining details of a special meeting with the command of the country’s armed forces and security agencies.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ukrainian leader said a counteroffensive codenamed Veles was under way in the Kupiansk direction in Kharkiv region.

Zelensky said the opposing side had tried to use underground gas pipelines and communications lines to breach defensive lines and infiltrate positions.

The Ukrainian president said military units had turned this tactic against the opposing side: “Our soldiers responded swiftly to this tactic and used underground communications systems very successfully to deliver effective retaliatory strikes.”
