US President Donald Trump said trilateral talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could be arranged in the near future.
Operative Information Center-OMM reported, citing the White House press service, that the US leader made the remarks while answering reporters’ questions after a rally in Texas, as he arrived at Joint Base Andrews near Washington.
Trump, speaking about the format of talks on resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, said:
“The parties want to explore the possibility of dialogue, so we will see how the process develops. I think we can arrange such a format in the near future. It is not essential for the meeting to take place in person; other alternative and virtual diplomatic formats are also possible. But I think this initiative could be implemented fairly soon.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Moscow is interested in ending military operations in Ukraine through peaceful and political-diplomatic means. Russia has said it is ready to sit down at the negotiating table, but has not seen a comparable level of readiness and resolve from the leadership in Kyiv.
US President Donald Trump, for his part, has also expressed dissatisfaction with the Kyiv administration’s current position and questioned how ready Ukraine’s leadership is for a peaceful settlement. In previous remarks, the US leader highlighted the importance of a political approach capable of achieving constructive agreements with Russia.
