Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has called German Chancellor Friedrich Merz a “servant” of Germany’s military-industrial complex.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Zakharova made the remarks on Sputnik radio.
According to her, Merz is not merely lobbying for the interests of military-industrial companies but is also serving them.
“He is not simply lobbying for their interests; he serves them. Merz is a servant of the military-industrial complex. That is why more money and orders are needed, apparently so that something reaches Merz as well,” Zakharova said.
Earlier, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul criticized Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The minister said Berlin should receive benefits in return for being one of the countries providing Ukraine with the most active financial and military assistance.
Wadephul called on Kyiv to increase the volume of orders placed with Germany’s military-industrial complex.
Germany has been among Ukraine’s principal supporters since the start of the conflict, providing financial assistance, military equipment and air defense systems. Berlin’s policy has also fueled debate inside Germany over defense spending and the role of the country’s arms industry.
