“Moscow considers it completely unacceptable for NATO to deploy military infrastructure in Afghanistan and neighboring countries.”
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the remarks.
Lavrov spoke at the opening of consultations in the Moscow Format involving special representatives and officials on Afghanistan.
“I would like to reiterate that, under any pretext, NATO’s deployment of military infrastructure in Afghanistan and neighboring countries is categorically unacceptable,” he said.
Lavrov stressed that such a military presence could undermine stability in the region.
The Moscow Format is a diplomatic mechanism for discussions on Afghanistan that brings together regional countries and other participants. Its consultations address developments in Afghanistan and their implications for regional security.
