Armenian society must end attempts to interfere in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Western Azerbaijan Community issued a statement to this effect.
The statement said an unfounded campaign in Armenia surrounding recent visits by foreign diplomats to Azerbaijan’s liberated territories had continued unabated:
“Such a reaction, which damages the peace and normalization process between the two countries, shows that Armenian society still has serious reservations about fully abandoning the notorious ‘miatsum’ policy, recognizing Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and living in conditions of peaceful coexistence. The ‘Real Armenia’ concept put forward by the Armenian authorities is, in fact, undergoing a serious crisis.”
The statement said that, in recent days, approaches based on fabricated history, fabricated antiquity and national exceptionalism had once again come to the fore in Armenian society:
“It is fundamentally wrong and dangerous to deny the history and culture of the Azerbaijani people, who have a great history and rich cultural heritage. As President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stressed while receiving religious figures from several foreign countries on Sept. 15, the Azerbaijani people have given world culture such outstanding figures and thinkers as Nizami Ganjavi, Khagani Shirvani, Nasimi, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, Shah Ismail Khatai and Fuzuli. It was precisely this kind of toxic ideology and approach that pushed Armenia toward the ‘miatsum’ policy, particularly over the past 30 years, creating the conditions for the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis from Armenia, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and the deliberate destruction of cultural heritage, including mosques.”
It said the consequences of this policy for the Armenian state and people were clear to everyone.
“The Western Azerbaijan Community calls on Armenian society not to repeat the mistakes of the past, to end attempts to interfere in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs, to fully recognize our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from provocative actions that regularly cause justified discontent in Azerbaijan,” the statement said.
The Western Azerbaijan Community is an organization advocating the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from present-day Armenia and calling for their safe and dignified return.
