US President Donald Trump is expected to discuss efforts to combat foreign criminal networks targeting Americans with fake cryptocurrency investments at a White House event on Wednesday. A White House official told Reuters, AnewZ reports.

The event will address preventing cybercrime, seizing fake cryptocurrency investment websites and combating online scams involving the impersonation of others, the official said.

FBI Director Kash Patel, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Todd Blanche and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles are expected to attend.

Americans filed more than one million complaints about online fraud with the FBI in 2025, according to the bureau’s report. That was 17% more than in 2024.

Trump family’s cryptocurrency activities

The event comes as the Trump family expands its activity in the cryptocurrency sector.

A Reuters investigation found that major cryptocurrency ventures involving Trump and his sons added at least $2.3 billion to the family’s wealth. Investors involved in those ventures, however, lost $2.3 billion.

Responding to the investigation, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly told Reuters: “Every action taken by President Trump and his administration is in the interest of the American people.”

In October 2025, Trump pardoned Changpeng Zhao, founder of cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Zhao had been convicted in the case after the company admitted it had failed to maintain an effective anti-money laundering program.

In March this year, Trump signed an executive order prioritizing the identification and prosecution of those responsible for online scams. He later directed the Department of Homeland Security to work with private companies to track the activities of foreign criminal hacking groups.
