Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s entry into Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh), located in occupied Syrian territory, has drawn condemnation from Syria and Jordan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that both countries described Netanyahu’s move as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called Netanyahu’s entry into the occupied Syrian territories a “provocative act.”
The ministry said the visit constituted a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as international law.
It described Israel’s continued attacks and violations in Syrian territory as a “dangerous escalation” threatening regional security and stability.
Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned Netanyahu’s entry into Mount Hermon, calling it an “unacceptable provocation.”
Amman said the move violated Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and called on Israel to halt its actions against Syria’s security and stability.
Jordan also urged the international community to take measures to stop Israel’s activities against Syria and end the occupation of part of Syrian territory.
Mount Hermon is located in Quneitra province, near the Golan Heights. Due to its strategic position, the mountain is of major military and security importance.
Parts of the area are under Israeli control. Mount Hermon is situated in the Golan Heights region, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967.
