SCO, EAEU urged to create integrated transport route system

“The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) should develop not only individual transport corridors but also a unified system of interconnected routes.”

“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev made the remarks.

“Maritime communications have recently become vulnerable and exposed to various risks. In such circumstances, the importance of Eurasian transport routes and the related regulatory standards is objectively increasing for our states, which are located on the same continent,” Yermekbayev said.

He added that the ongoing transformation of global supply chains was creating new requirements:

“Therefore, the SCO and the EAEU face the task not only of developing individual transport corridors, but also of forming a unified, interconnected system of routes linking the east, west, north and south.”

Yermekbayev noted that the EAEU had developed mechanisms for coordinated transport policy, while the SCO brings together countries through which Eurasia’s most important transit routes pass.

The SCO is a regional organization focused on cooperation in security, trade, transport and other areas. The EAEU promotes economic integration among its member states, including coordination in transport and logistics.
