President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Sayyid Mujtaba Hosseini Khamenei, on the occasion of his appointment.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Azerbaijani leader extended his best wishes for the new Supreme Leader's tenure and emphasized the importance of bilateral ties. "I congratulate you on your election as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. I once again express my condolences to you on the tragic passing of your father, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei," the letter stated.
President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the deep-rooted historical connections between the two nations, noting that relations are based on the will of two peoples who have lived in conditions of good neighborliness and friendship. The President expressed confidence that joint efforts will continue to develop interstate relations in a channel of mutual respect and trust, in accordance with the interests of both nations.
Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have traditionally focused on regional security, energy cooperation, and the development of international transport corridors. Following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, both nations have engaged in various infrastructure projects, including the construction of new bridges and transit routes aimed at enhancing regional connectivity. This high-level communication underscores the commitment of both Baku and Tehran to maintaining stability and fostering economic partnership in the South Caucasus and the Middle East.
