Petrolul, featuring Azerbaijan national team player Jalal Huseynov, beat Progresul Spartac 6-0 in the second round of the Romanian Cup group stage. The Ploiesti side secured an away win against a third-tier club.
Rares Lascu opened the scoring in the 28th minute at Clinceni Stadium. Alexandro Bran doubled the lead four minutes later. Lascu scored his second and Petrolul’s third in the 57th minute.
One of the home side’s players was sent off in the 65th minute. Huseynov started and was substituted in the 73rd minute, with his team leading by four goals. David Paraschiv scored in the 69th and 85th minutes to complete a brace. Lascu completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute to set the final score.
After the win, Petrolul sit fourth in Group B with three points. The team will face CFR Cluj in the Romanian SuperLiga on October 31 and Sepsi in the domestic cup on December 2.
