France Football editor-in-chief and Ballon d’Or chief Vincent Garcia said Paris Saint-Germain should have backed forward Ousmane Dembélé more actively in the race for the award. This year, it went to Bayern Munich and England striker Harry Kane.
Garcia said the Paris club’s communications strategy was unclear, with three players initially promoted and then two. He said PSG should have focused on the current Ballon d’Or holder, Dembélé. Garcia stressed, however, that this was his personal view and that he did not consider himself an expert. RMC Sport reported his remarks.
Among PSG players, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia finished sixth in the top 10, Dembélé seventh and Fabián Ruiz 10th.
