The combined net profit of Pakistan’s four largest publicly listed refineries rose more than 1,860% to over 57 billion Pakistani rupees in the quarter ended September 2026, compared with 2.9 billion rupees a year earlier. AnewZ cited figures published by Nikkei Asia.
Attock Refinery led the gains, posting net profit of 18.65 billion rupees. Pakistan Refinery earned 13.97 billion rupees, Cnergyico Pk 12.88 billion rupees and National Refinery 11.57 billion rupees.
Three of the four companies increased their profits by more than 1,000% year on year. Cnergyico Pk, which recorded a net loss in the same period last year, could not be directly compared.
Major disruptions to global energy supplies have driven up fuel prices and widened refining margins. According to Nikkei Asia, rising oil prices after the start of the U.S.-Iran conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz led to fuel shortages and more favorable refining conditions.
The Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf with international markets, plays a major role in global oil supplies. Disruption to shipping through the waterway can push up fuel prices and affect refining costs.
Pakistan’s refineries increased quarterly earnings as the gap widened between the cost of crude oil and the selling price of refined petroleum products. However, the sharp rise in profits was driven by exceptional market conditions, raising questions about whether earnings at this level can be sustained.
