An armed attack on a police checkpoint in the Hangu district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has resulted in significant casualties.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, which cited international media reports, the incident left nine police officers dead and 28 others injured.
The attack, which occurred yesterday, has been attributed to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). In the ensuing security response, 15 militants were neutralized by security forces.
Armed attacks are frequent in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, both of which share borders with Afghanistan. These regions have long been hotspots for instability, where various militant groups, often claiming to advocate for the rights of Pashtun and Baloch ethnic groups, frequently target Pakistani security forces and civilians. The Pakistani government continues to conduct counter-terrorism operations in these volatile border areas to maintain national security.
