A murder committed 13 years ago in Shamkir has been solved.
The Prosecutor General’s press service provided the information to Operative Information Center-OMM.
The preliminary investigation by the Prosecutor General’s Investigation Department concerned the discovery of the body of Kifayat Maharramova, born in 1967, with signs of violence in her home in Shamkir district on Aug. 5, 2013.
Investigators found reasonable grounds to suspect that Khayal Mammadov, born in 1989, entered Maharramova’s home unlawfully for financial gain and deliberately killed her with particular cruelty, inflicting multiple injuries with a folding pocketknife he was carrying. He is also suspected of stealing cash and gold jewelry worth approximately 3,000 manats in total before leaving the scene.
On Sept. 22, 2026, Mammadov was formally charged and remanded in custody. He was additionally charged under Articles 120.2.4 (murder with particular cruelty), 120.2.11 (murder related to robbery) and 181.3.3 (robbery) of the Criminal Code.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the indictment was approved by the prosecutor overseeing the proceedings. The case has been sent to the Ganja Court of Grave Crimes for trial.
