A suspect has been detained in connection with a murder committed in Azerbaijan’s Shamkir district in 2013.
"Operative Information Center-OMM" reports that the press services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office issued a joint statement on the matter.
According to the statement, an investigation was launched after the body of Kifayat Maharramova, born in 1967, was found at her home on Aug. 5 of that year with signs of violence.
As a result of joint operational-search and investigative measures carried out by police and prosecutors, Khayal Mammadov, born in 1989, was detained and handed over to investigators on suspicion of committing the murder for financial gain.
A preliminary investigation into the case is continuing at the Shamkir District Prosecutor’s Office under the relevant article of the Criminal Code.
In Azerbaijan, murder investigations are conducted by law enforcement and prosecutorial authorities, while suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty by a court.
