French President Emmanuel Macron will meet Friday with the leaders of parties represented in parliament to discuss international conflicts and their implications for France’s security and energy supplies.
"Operative Information Center-OMM", citing Le Figaro, reports that the meeting will be held at the Elysee Palace with Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu, military leaders and representatives of intelligence services in attendance.
"Against the backdrop of the rapid deterioration of the international situation in recent days, the president of the Republic has invited the leaders of parties represented in parliament to a meeting on the conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine and their security and energy-related consequences for France," the Elysee Palace said in a statement.
Military and intelligence services will present information available to the head of state.
Each invited political force may be represented by only one person — either its party leader or its candidate in the presidential election. Senate President Gerard Larcher and National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet have also been invited to the meeting.
Earlier this week, the French president held talks with the Iraqi prime minister, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia and the emir of Qatar. Macron is receiving the king of Jordan and the president of Lebanon in Paris today.
The meeting comes as France seeks to assess the wider security and energy consequences of conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine. Such consultations bring together the executive branch, parliament and national security institutions to coordinate assessments of international developments.
