French club Lille midfielder and captain Benjamin André assessed his team’s performance after its match against Galatasaray in the third round of the Champions League league phase. Lille lost 4-2 at home on October 21.
The visitors took the lead through Akgün in the second minute. Diaoune scored in the seventh and 39th minutes to put Lille ahead. Batakov equalised in the 44th minute, before Bentaleb scored in the 52nd minute and Osimhen in the 61st for Galatasaray.
“We did not play at the level this competition demands today. We have to be completely honest with ourselves. In the Champions League, every mistake and lapse in concentration is punished immediately,” André said. His comments were reported by Footmercato.
The captain said they had given their opponents too many easy opportunities to create dangerous attacks and punish Lille in transition. André said the team needed to make a fundamental change in its approach, play more aggressively and improve the quality of its football if it wanted to compete in Europe.
