Law enforcement agencies in Qakh have conducted a large-scale operation, resulting in the discovery and destruction of wild narcotic plants in the vicinity of Alibeyli village. The operation was carried out as part of the ongoing "Khash-khash-2026" (Poppy-2026) complex preventive measures.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Sheki regional group of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the operation targeted the eradication of illicit drug cultivation in the region. Authorities reported that a total of 9,692 cannabis plants, weighing approximately 4.2 tons, were uprooted and destroyed by fire.
The "Khash-khash" operations are annual, nationwide initiatives conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan to combat the illegal cultivation and distribution of narcotic substances. These operations typically intensify during the summer months when wild and illicitly planted cannabis crops reach maturity, serving as a critical component of the country's broader strategy to curb drug trafficking and promote public safety.
