Federal authorities have arrested an Oklahoma City man suspected of mailing hundreds of envelopes containing suspicious white powder to public officials and election offices across the United States, Anadolu Agency reported.
The mailings targeted more than 100 locations, including secretaries of state and administrative election offices, during the 2024 and 2026 election cycles, authorities confirmed.
The suspect is due to make an initial court appearance later Tuesday. The arrest followed a joint investigation by the FBI, the US Postal Inspection Service, US Capitol Police and the Oklahoma City Police Department.
US Sen. James Lankford said on “X” that he was grateful for law enforcement’s work after receiving a suspicious package. He thanked the agencies involved in the investigation for protecting public safety.
The arrest came on the day of the US midterm elections and followed a federal alert issued in October about hazardous letters sent to voting infrastructure in multiple states.
The scare led to evacuations at facilities in Oklahoma and the interception of parcels in Ohio. Election directors nationwide also put contingency security measures in place.
