Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sharply criticized legal and political allegations targeting Moscow amid the conflict in Ukraine.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that the diplomat made the remarks during an inter-embassy roundtable.
According to the reports, Lavrov addressed the “legal warfare” tactics allegedly pursued by the West and Kyiv against Russia, comparing the claims to a rooster’s crowing: “This is a characteristic of the legal warfare invented by the Anglo-Saxons. In their view, the main effect is to voice accusations as loudly as possible. First, one has to crow, while whether the morning will come no longer concerns them very much.” The minister said such proceedings had been conducted systematically since 2014, but claimed that Ukraine had failed in investigations before international courts.
It was also reported that Russia remains open to diplomatic solutions. Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on September 4 that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s position on resolving the conflict remained unchanged and that Russia was still ready to return to the negotiating table.
International legal proceedings related to the Ukraine conflict have been ongoing for years, with various parties presenting claims and counterclaims before international institutions. Diplomatic negotiations remain one of the channels discussed by the parties alongside legal and political measures.
