Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Upali Pannilage, the Minister of Rural Development, Social Security, and Community Empowerment of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, within the framework of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan released information regarding the meeting on its official X account. During the discussions, the ministers highly valued the development of relations based on mutual respect and shared values, exploring opportunities to further expand cooperation across various sectors.

The Sri Lankan side expressed deep gratitude for the humanitarian assistance provided by Azerbaijan during recent natural disasters. Special attention was paid to strengthening economic ties and increasing trade turnover, with both parties emphasizing tourism as a vital factor for broader cooperation. Additionally, the meeting highlighted scholarship opportunities available for Sri Lankan citizens in Azerbaijan. Both sides noted that utilizing the consultation mechanism between the foreign ministries and coordinating efforts within multilateral platforms would provide further impetus to the development of bilateral relations.

Azerbaijan continues to enhance its diplomatic footprint in the Asia-Pacific region through active participation in UNESCAP, which serves as the regional development arm of the United Nations. Established in 1947, the commission aims to address socio-economic challenges in the region, and Azerbaijan's engagement underscores its commitment to fostering international partnerships and contributing to regional development goals.
