Azerbaijan has provided approximately $400 million in humanitarian, economic and technical assistance to more than 140 countries since 2020.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said this in an address to the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The minister said Azerbaijan’s commitment to international solidarity and cooperation is likewise reflected in its development and humanitarian assistance efforts: “In recent years, Azerbaijan has significantly expanded the scope of its international assistance, paying particular attention to small developing island states and partner countries in Africa.
As we mark the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, Azerbaijan once again reaffirms its commitment to partnership approaches based on solidarity, mutual respect and shared development priorities.
As 2030 approaches, it is becoming increasingly clear that the world is falling behind in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
Azerbaijan remains fully committed to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into its national development strategies, institutional frameworks and Voluntary National Review processes, with particular focus on connectivity, green development, digitalization and sustainable urban development.
Over nearly the past two decades, Azerbaijan’s GDP has tripled, while the poverty rate has declined from 49% to approximately 5%. At the same time, Azerbaijan has one of the lowest levels of external public debt in the world.
Our approach also involves advancing sustainable development through effective and accountable institutions. At Azerbaijan’s initiative, the UN Human Rights Council adopted by consensus, for the third time, a resolution titled “Promoting human rights and the Sustainable Development Goals through transparent, accountable and efficient delivery of public services” on March 30, 2026. Co-sponsored by more than 100 member states, the resolution highlights the important role of citizen-oriented, transparent and efficient state institutions in advancing human rights and accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.”
